BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) — Before school starts later this week, a church in Bradenton is making sure young students are prepared not just with supplies, but with spiritual guidance.
Trinity United Methodist Church held its “Blessing of the Backpacks” ceremony on Sunday morning, bringing together a dozen students and their families to give them a boost before the big return to class. Church members prayed over the children to show them that Jesus Christ is with them as they face a new year full of new challenges.
“So it’s just a way of letting them know that the congregation and the church members are here with them,”
The ceremony has been a longstanding tradition at the church for years.
Parents within the congregation appreciate the tradition because the first day of school can be a stressful day for many students. Every year there are always new teachers, new classrooms and new tasks to do, but she said it was heartwarming to see the Trinity community come together to give them the confidence they need. .
“They have a lot of people praying for them,” said Erin Bobo, surrounded by her three young children Savannah, Logan and Ryan. “We are all behind them and hope they have a great year and a good one.”
The blessing ceremony ended with a group prayer after the blessing where all members showed their support for the students.
