Jillian Leman, Mina DeJong, both in eighth grade, and Harper Sandahl, a sixth grader, have been chosen to participate in the OPUS Honorary Choir at the All-State Music Festival on November 18.

Five students, two from Fort Dodge High School and three from Fort Dodge Middle School, have been selected to be part of this year’s OPUS Honor Choir.

OPUS is an honorary choir opportunity for grades 5-9, sponsored by the Iowa Choral Directors Association. More than 2,200 students auditioned via recordings for the 720 stations of the four OPUS Choirs of Honor.

The selected Dodger singers are:

Abbi Casciato, first year student; Micah Flaherty, freshman; Mina DeJong, eighth grade; Jillian Leman, eighth grade; and Harper Sandahl, sixth grade.

The OPUS Honorary Choir will perform at the All-State Music Festival at 4 p.m. on November 18 at the CY Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University in Ames.

“We are proud of the five students who will represent the Fort Dodge community schools in this year’s OPUS Honorary Choir,” said Joan Ascherl, a vocal music teacher at the college. “This is an opportunity for these students to be part of an elite choir and improve their art, which in turn will benefit all of our Dodger choirs.”
