Since 2010, the China Academy of Art has presented its educational and creative achievements to the public in a new form of “Graduation Exhibition Week” – the first of its kind in art academies. In 2019, based on the academy’s graduation season, China Academy of Art related literature and science, cultural creativity and technological innovation and other fields to launch the Zhijiang International Youth Art Festival. During this year’s graduation season at the China Academy of Arts, there are more than 2,500 graduates and a total of more than 3,000 sets of works will be exhibited. 1,757 undergraduates, 631 masters students and 87 doctoral students from 17 teaching units are involved in a total of 50 exhibitions. The original intention and vision of the academy has always been to let graduation season roll off campus, art sympathizes with people, universities become integrated with the city, educational achievements are shared with the society and to create an “academy without walls”.
The theme of this year’s Youth Art Festival is “life force“, which refers to the viability and activity of living beings in reality, and to the capacity and wisdom that human beings are consciously seeking at the inflection point of times brought about by the epidemic. The specific and subtle”life force“once neglected and forgotten has returned to the field of arts education with unprecedented importance and urgency. It not only delves deeply into human relationships and the laws of things in food, clothing, housing and transportation daily life, but inspires everyone with an understanding of “living” and immediate awareness of “relevance to me”.
“life force“is the foundation of all intellectual thoughts and artistic creation since ancient times, and gives them the depth of reality and the vitality of life. “Life” is impulse and energy, and “living “is action and creation in the world. Vital Force is the experience and ability, the understanding of reality and the practical skills that a person must live actively. It includes concern for the joys and sorrows of everyday people, and also contains the deep empathy for others, distant places and all things and life.

As a high place of traditional disciplines, the School of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy takes “Traces of a Day” as the sub-theme of the graduation exhibition. It presents 494 works by 190 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students from the School of Chinese Painting and calligraphy, reflecting their creativity of thought, study and exploration in various thoughts, perspectives and areas in daily life and stages of learning.
The school of design and innovation is a pioneer in the integration of science and art in China Academy of Arts. The year 2022 will see the school’s first graduation exhibition which is also an important test of achievement in the history of arts education and teaching outcomes in the integrative mode of teaching for students. in liberal arts, sciences and arts. The exhibition focuses on new technological changes, constantly reshapes the challenges and opportunities of the global model, responds to social concerns with design and thought, and imagines the possibility of the future with design and innovative experiences. In September 2021, the School of Design & Innovation is moving to the new Liangzhu Campus, “the cradle of Chinese civilisation” and “at the forefront of the digital economy”. Focusing on the cultural resources and industrial characteristics and advantages of the Yangtze River Delta, it has established three majors – art and technology, industrial design and digital media art, and explores a new mechanism for talent, teaching, management and education.
The young artists of the School of Intermedia Arts reflect the experimental spirit and the critical attitude in their artistic practices through multi-presentation and multimedia artistic creation. The school of design takes “In Life” as the theme of this graduation exhibition because design is not only “in life”, but also “in the realm of life”, aiming to exploit the perception interior of the life of young artists or designers. .
The School of Film and Animation Graduation Exhibition 2022 is a retrospective and summary of the evolution of the discipline over the past 20 years, held as the School of Film and Animation ‘Animation and game school are newly established, which is also called the “restart” of the two schools.
