Officials at the Wesleyan Church in Rome, 317 W. Embargo St., have announced that the Reverend James Swanson is the new pastor of the church.
Reverend Swanson, his wife Joan and their daughter Julia visited the Glens Falls area in October. Swanson has been in the ministry for over 30 years as a senior pastor, youth and worship pastor, and educator.
He has taught college and ministerial courses for over 20 years at colleges and ministerial training centers. Swanson teaches ministry courses for the Penn York district of the Wesleyan Church. His wife Joan is a professor and director of educational studies at Franklin Pierce University. Julia will be graduating from high school in June and looks forward to further training in the medical field in the coming year. The Swansons also have three other grown children and five grandchildren.
The Swansons said they were happy to be in Rome and be a part of the changes in the church and congregation.
The church building is being renovated to include ministry areas for students and adults, a playroom for children, and an area for nurseries and toddlers. Worship services are based on the Bible, prayer, and music. In his sermons, Reverend Swanson said he seeks to explain ancient Bible truths in ways that are real and relevant to everyone today. The church sings both hymns and modern worship music to celebrate.
The Sunday morning worship service is at 11 a.m. To learn more about the church, visit Romewes.org or call or text Pastor Swanson at 315-337-9976.
